Mexican Clay Catrin and Catrina, Huichol Day of the Dead Couple

$ 499.00

One of a kind, pair of catrin and catrina depicting the traditional dress of the Huichol people of Western Mexico. This pair was made by family members of both, Alvaro de la Cruz and Juan Torres.  They were handmade in Capula, Michoacán. This stunning pair is beautifully and pleasingly painted. Please notice the beautiful "embroidered" bags that both men and women carry.  The catrin's hat has dangling balls and the catrina wears the typical headscarf of many Huichol women.  Catrinas were popularized by Jose Guadalupe Posada at the turn of the 20th century and for that reason the women typically wear the garb of the day. They are not signed.
