Ceramics from yesteryear
The Virgen de Guadalupe, milagros, sacred hearts and images are all artistic motifs used in Mexican folk art in every state in Mexico.
The Christmas decorations of Mexico vary by region but are always colorful and festive whether made of tin, paper, wood, textiles or clay.
"Milagro"means "miracle" in Spanish. Milagros are religious charms that are prevalent throughout Mexico and are used to request or thank God for a miracle.

This small plate was made in Tonalá, Jalisco, a suburb of Guadalajara, Mexico. This tell-tale design is typical of the region and many items can be found in this charming neutral palate. They usually have birds or animals in the design and this one is no exception! Nice on the wall as it has a small wire for hanging. There is a very tiny chip at the bottom left but I actually didn't notice it until measuring it for this description!
