Exceptional handwork on these Mexican blouses handmade in the Chiapas village of San Andres Larrainzar. These short-sleeved blouses are constructed in the traditional square, unfitted way of huipils from a gorgeous heavy white with a contrasting red cotton. It is then "bordado" or embroidered on a back strap loom in the traditional Mayan iconography depicting the universe in a way only very skilled Mayan women can do. The work is like tapestry work, with what is called a "supplementary weft." The cotton is a heavier cotton weave.  These are medium size blouses but are meant to be somewhat loose. They look stunning with with straight-leg or skinny jeans! Yes, it will need ironing but it's so worth it. Truly beautiful.
