This large sized huipil (pronounced wee-peel) was beautifully and meticulously crafted by Amuzga women of Xochistlahuaca, Mexico. This is an old piece that I've had in my collection since 2008. It's been in my closet since then and I've never worn it. Time for someone else to either wear it or display it! It is a gorgeous example of the huipiles and blouses woven and worn by women in this region. It is made in the same way most huipiles are made, two long rectangular strips are hand sewn (though this is embroidered together with thick, dark, green thread) on the sides to make a dress. It is very forgiving in shape! The background is an off white manta or cotton and the gorgeous, multi-colored flowers are set off with dark green thread on the edges and throughout the piece. The design is on both sides of the dress. Unusual and difficult to find unless you go to Xochistlahuaca and look for the best embroiderers!
One of a kind, collector's piece
