These handwoven, lidded baskets are from the State of Oaxaca and made from carrizo, a natural fiber that is grown, harvested, processed, and then woven into lovely baskets. It's a little like bamboo in its texture and stiffness. I see these baskets with or without handles, in lots of different sizes, with lids or without. They are very well made, sturdy and you can see the mixture of plant fiber sizes that were used to weave these beauties together. The lids fit very well and the natural color is perfect for any interior. They are used every day in Mexico for carrying food, goods, merchandise and belongings from place to place.
