This is a very pretty, old huipil, or over blouse, woven and worn by a Mayan woman in Guatemala. The colors combine beautifully. It's not fitted so it is perfect for wearing with skinny jeans or with a belt over a full skirt. In general these old huipiles are woven as two separate strips on a backstrap loom, then made into blouses with the embroidery down the sides and around the neck and the stitching down the center. This one features blue velvet trim on the collar and sleeves with multi-colored Mayan symbols of the universe. The sides are closed so it has "sleeves." It is on a heavy white, woven cotton. The colors have run a little on the bottom but that makes it more beautiful to me.
The size is medium large. They are basically a square shape so they are not fitted and they are comfortable and forgiving. Very beautiful. The head hole does fit over my head even though it looks small!
It is also gorgeous hanging on the wall as a piece of handmade art.
