Mexican Clay Day of the Dead Catrina, Carrying Fruit in Rebozo

This item is sold out but we thought you might like to take a look at these similar products.

One of a kind, catrina carrying a variety of fruits in the rebozo that is slung across her shoulders and back. This piece was handmade in Capula, Michoacán. I purchased this piece from a young couple from Capula who were exhibiting at the Semana Santa Folk Art Festival in Uruapan. Catrinas were popularized by Jose Guadalupe Posada at the turn of the 20th century and for that reason the women typically wear the garb of the day. It is not signed. Clay catrinas are extremely fragile.
