Ceramics from yesteryear
The Virgen de Guadalupe, milagros, sacred hearts and images are all artistic motifs used in Mexican folk art in every state in Mexico.
The Christmas decorations of Mexico vary by region but are always colorful and festive whether made of tin, paper, wood, textiles or clay.
"Milagro"means "miracle" in Spanish. Milagros are religious charms that are prevalent throughout Mexico and are used to request or thank God for a miracle.

These are whimsical clay nativity scenes hand built and hand painted in Ocumicho, Michoacán. These two nacimientos are on a small platform base. They are very rustically painted in bright analine paints. All of them feature Mary, Joseph, and the baby Jesus. The decorations are mostly flowers and greens. Each one is one of a kind. Made of clay, fired at a very low temp and painted in vibrant colors. Very fragile.
