Probably the most well known state for Mexican folk art, Oaxaca is southeast of Mexico City. It is one of the poorest states in Mexico and home to many indigenous people who merge the old (and new) traditions of folk art making into new and creative pieces. This is the source of wood carvings, tin work, black clay pottery and handwoven textiles including the stunning hand embroidered dresses and blouses of San Antonino.
