Ceramics from yesteryear
The Virgen de Guadalupe, milagros, sacred hearts and images are all artistic motifs used in Mexican folk art in every state in Mexico.
The Christmas decorations of Mexico vary by region but are always colorful and festive whether made of tin, paper, wood, textiles or clay.
"Milagro"means "miracle" in Spanish. Milagros are religious charms that are prevalent throughout Mexico and are used to request or thank God for a miracle.

This is a pretty, vintage huipil, or over blouse, woven and worn by a Mayan woman in Guatemala. The lovely maroon striped weaving is complimented by the fantastic colorful flowers. The colors combine beautifully. It's not fitted so it is perfect for wearing with skinny jeans or with a belt over a full skirt. These are woven as two separate strips on a backstrap loom, then made into blouses with the embroidery around the neck and the stitching down the center. This one is dark maroon with stripes in the background and multi-colored flowers and a crocheted neckline. The head hole is very small so it may not fit over your head. Perfect for displaying!
The size is medium. Huipils are basically a square shape so they are not fitted and VERY comfortable. This one is closed on the sides so it can either be worn over another top or worn alone.
dimensions: 30" wide by 21" long, medium size, shorter length
