Vintage Guatemalan Huipil

$ 175.00

This is a lovely, violet, vintage huipil, or over blouse, woven and worn by a Mayan woman in Guatemala. Sometimes these lovely weaving are complimented by "deshilado" or "dethreaded" pattern which leave tiny little openings between the layers of colorful embroidery but this one is not of that type.  The brightly colored embroidered zigzags and symbols cover the top 3/4s of the huipil.  The colors combine beautifully. It's not fitted so it is perfect for wearing with skinny jeans or with a belt over a full skirt. These are woven as two or three separate strips on a backstrap loom, then made into blouses by stitching down the center or the sides. Can be worn because head hole is large enough.

The size is medium. Huipils are basically a square shape so they are not fitted and VERY comfortable. This one is closed on the sides so it can either be worn over another top or worn alone.
