This is a lovely, simple 8 piece nacimiento or nativity scene from the small town of La Union, Mexico. The carvings of La Union are a little more rare than those of other Oaxaca wood carving towns because the town is difficult to reach and the real work of La Union is farming, so pieces are few and far between. The wood carving is the older, more rustic style that is done with a machete. The wood is copal, native to the Oaxaca area. The aniline paint colors are bright and well coordinated. It was made by Alberto Perez and is signed on the bottom of the manger.
They are always one of a kind because of the unique carving, color combinations in the painting and the expressions on the animals
