Carved Wood Guatemalan Dancer Sculptures with Masks, 12" Tall
These gorgeous, one of a kind dancers, or danzantes, are hand carved and painted in Guatemala. They are all wearing removable hats and masks. The arms move. The hats, the masks, the maracas may be removed for easier packing and shipping.
I am not an expert on the dances of Guatemala but my guess is that this is representative of a dance in a certain region where the dancers don masks of various indigenous peoples. Guatemala, like Mexico, is a culture very accustomed to dances with masks.
