These oblong trays or bateas are first carved from wood, then painted with an organic laca or lacquer (made from insect parts) and then beautifully painted with the recognizable flower motifs of Olínala, Guerrero. The skill of these artisans is so impressive. These very pretty vessels can be used to store things or just for looking at. I do not recommend serving food on them because the design might be damaged. A lovely, unique gift.
