This is a gorgeous, old huipil, or over blouse, woven and worn by a Mayan woman in Chichicastenango,Guatemala. The colors combine beautifully. It's not fitted so it is perfect for wearing with skinny jeans or with a belt over a full skirt. In general these old huipiles are woven as two separate strips on a backstrap loom, then made into blouses with the embroidery around the neck and the stitching down the center. This one features muted oranges and autumn tones on a slightly faded brown-black background. The embroidery work is phenomenal!
The size is medium large to large. They are basically a square shape so they are not fitted and VERY comfortable. This one is open on the sides so it can either be worn over another top or sewn up the sides. Very beautiful.
It is also gorgeous hanging on the wall or spread flat on a table as a table runner.
