Vintage Indigo with Scalloped Neckline Guatemalan Huipil
This is a gorgeous, old huipil, or over blouse, woven and worn by a Mayan woman in Guatemala. The indigo weaving of the blouse is topped off with a scalloped collar in the front and back. The multiple colors of the "bordado" combine beautifully. It's not fitted so it is perfect for wearing with skinny jeans or with a belt over a full skirt. In general these old huipiles are woven as two separate strips on a backstrap loom, then made into blouses with the embroidery around the neck and the stitching down the center.
The size on this one is medium large to large. They are basically a square shape so they are not fitted and VERY comfortable. This one is OPEN on the sides so it can be worn over a tee shirt or you can stitch up the sides.
It is gorgeous hanging on the wall!
