This is a whimsical, curly bird, vintage pin handcrafted in Taxco, Mexico in the 1930's by the silversmith, Rafael Melendez. Mr. Melendez was one of the first people to work with William Spratling beginning in 1932. By 1939 he had his own workshop, or taller, and was known to train many silversmiths in the great silver town of Taxco. This pin is 980 sterling or 98% silver, typical of Melendez work. Stamped with his hallmark and "980" and "Taxco." Sturdy clasp.
