Zinacantán, a small town close to San Cristóbal de las Casas in the mountains of Chiapas, is home to some of the most beautiful textiles of Mexico. They are known for their small shawls, "chals" or "rebozos" which are woven from traditional purple cotton thread. On my most recent trip I visited Zinacantán and purchased this very pretty blouse which is cross-stitched rather than embroidered. Every blouse is unique, of course and the color combination is ace. The sides are embroidered closed. Why didn't I get more of them? I was not thinking!

One reason I hesitated is that the upper part of the blouse is STUNNING but the lower part (the actual blouse material) is not cotton or wool or anything organic. I believe the cross stitching is done with cotton thread.  I'm not sure what it is but I think it's some kind of polyester or rayon blend that flows really well. Now that I have it home, I really like it and will get more next time I'm in Zinacantán!
