5 Mexican Folk Art Gifts Everyone Loves

Posted by Anne Damon in charms

Gifts for friends or relatives can be tough to select! You don't want to give the same old thing to everyone but being creative in your gift giving can take time and energy you may not have. We specialize in the unique. We also specialize in one of kind gifts that people, whether they are relatives, best friends, or neighbors, will love and treasure because of your thoughtfulness.  So if you have a birthday, anniversary, wedding, engagement, or confirmation (or any other special occasion) we can help you out.

Here are our top 5 folk art suggestions for gifts:

1. Milagro Hearts

These hand carved wooden hearts come in various sizes and with or without wings. They are handmade in Michoacán in a family owned business. Every heart contains an assortment of milagros. The gorgeous milagros are nailed to the sacred heart and each one is a unique combination of wishes/charms for the gift recipient to hang on a wall in their home or office.

2. Talavera Clay Molcajetes

Mexican 3 Footed Bowl

These sweet 3-footed bowls are one of our top sellers because they can be used in so many ways AND they're so pretty!  They are great for serving salsa, guacamole or other dips and appetizers. But they can also be used in the office for desk supplies or to store earrings, rings or bracelets. Everyone loves them.

3. Nickel Silver Sacred Heart Earrings

Nickel silver or alpaca is an alloy of copper that contains no silver. Because it's an alloy it does not tarnish like silver and for that reason these earrings (any anything else made of alpaca) are always shiny without exerting any elbow grease to keep them that way. They are handmade. The French wires are sterling silver. One of our most popular gifts!

4. Handmade Paper Flower Crowns

Mexican Paper Flower Crown
Almost every gift recipient loves the simplicity of these paper flower crowns or "coronas." Handmade in Mexico City they can remain straight to decorate a table or a wall OR they can be clasped to make round crown for wearing or decorating. The colors are bright and cheerful and they add joy to every setting.

5. Mexican Bottle Shrines

Frida in a Bottle

These are beautiful bottle shrines--something similar to a nicho box but in a bottle. They provide endless fascination whether it's a Frida Kahlo bottle or a Virgen de Guadelupe bottle. Each bottle contains images of the iconic woman and is decorated with glitter, beads, loteria cards, tiny paper flowers and more. They are delightful to look at and I love staring at mine on my desk.

If you don't see anything here that you like, let us know and we'll be happy to help you select a gift for that wedding, confirmation, birthday, anniversary or any other event in your life.
