Ceramics from yesteryear
The Virgen de Guadalupe, milagros, sacred hearts and images are all artistic motifs used in Mexican folk art in every state in Mexico.
The Christmas decorations of Mexico vary by region but are always colorful and festive whether made of tin, paper, wood, textiles or clay.
"Milagro"means "miracle" in Spanish. Milagros are religious charms that are prevalent throughout Mexico and are used to request or thank God for a miracle.

The feather art of Mexico and particularly, Michoacán, is an art that is rapidly disappearing. There are a couple of feather artists currently working but these older pieces are likely from the rapid escalation of tourist art that started in the 1940's and 50's after the completion of the Transamerican Highway. American tourism significantly increased and many people have parents, grandparents or great-grandparents who bequeathed them jewelry, pottery or feather paintings from that era. This is quirky thing to collect but I love them! Some have rough hewn frames and others, more commonly, have frilly wooden carved frames that are lovingly placed around some pretty amazing feathers. The bird's body is painted onto the canvas around the feathers. Many of them have a short description by the RFW Co. about the history of Mexican feathercraft on the back of the piece.
