Palm Sunday Guadalupe with Green Robe and Glitter

$ 42.00

Once a year, on Palm Sunday, outside of churches in Michoacán, artisans sell their religious wares made of palm leaves and other organic materials. Patrons of the church purchase the items to carry into the church or to take home after the service.

These Guadalupes are made of straw, palm leaf and corn husk and rendered into very typical folk art of the season. It is an ephemeral art, not meant to last forever, but it adds a color and a humble acknowledgement to the mother of all, the Virgin of Guadalupe. The faces are painted clay. She is decorated with glitter, ric-rack, shiny stars and a palma woven banner at the bottom.

They are fragile so I prefer to have them picked up. We will do our best to protect them for shipping but please know, that if pieces break off they can be glued back on to the piece!
