Ceramics from yesteryear
The Virgen de Guadalupe, milagros, sacred hearts and images are all artistic motifs used in Mexican folk art in every state in Mexico.
The Christmas decorations of Mexico vary by region but are always colorful and festive whether made of tin, paper, wood, textiles or clay.
"Milagro"means "miracle" in Spanish. Milagros are religious charms that are prevalent throughout Mexico and are used to request or thank God for a miracle.

These small, nesting bowls were made in Tlaquepaque, Jalisco, a suburb of Guadalajara, Mexico. They have a tell-tale design, typical of the region. Many vintage ceramic items were made in the late 50's through the 70's. Ceramics like these are not being made in Jalisco now, but were for the tourist trade which increased after the Transamerican Highway opened through Mexico. This type of ceramic is older and likely will have lead in the glaze. These are small, in perfect condition and were used for display in the shop.
