Small Mexican Wooden Batea with Guadalupe & Milagros

$ 88.00

These small paintings of the Virgen de Guadalupe are on an arched and carved piece of wood that is known as a batea, in the style of those from Apaseo but these were handmade in Patzcuaro, Michoacán. They were painted by the same artisan but if you look closely, there are small differences--eyes open, eyes closed, trim and accent colors are different. Both are painted in a muted palette that makes them look older but they were made recently. The Virgin of Guadalupe wears her deep blue green rebozo and the radiant light shines from around her. The image and the edges are covered with small milagros. The background of the "frame" is black. They stand up or can be hung on the wall.

Bateas vary slightly due to their handmade nature--different milagros, different rays around Guadalupe but size is the same
