Ceramics from yesteryear
The Virgen de Guadalupe, milagros, sacred hearts and images are all artistic motifs used in Mexican folk art in every state in Mexico.
The Christmas decorations of Mexico vary by region but are always colorful and festive whether made of tin, paper, wood, textiles or clay.
"Milagro"means "miracle" in Spanish. Milagros are religious charms that are prevalent throughout Mexico and are used to request or thank God for a miracle.

Once a year, on Palm Sunday, outside of churches in Michoacán, artisans sell their religious wares made of palm leaves and other organic materials. Patrons of the church purchase the items to carry into the church or to take home after the service.
These Guadalupes are made of straw, palm leaf and corn husk and rendered into very typical folk art of the season. It is an ephemeral art, not meant to last forever, but it adds a color and a humble acknowledgement to the mother of all, the Virgin of Guadalupe. She stands on a dried palm pedestal decorated with ribons and lace. At the base are woven roses, a loaf of bread and a woven fish. The faces are painted clay. They are fragile so I prefer to have them picked up. We will do our best to protect them for shipping but please know, that if pieces break off they can be glued back on to the piece!
