Ceramics from yesteryear
The Virgen de Guadalupe, milagros, sacred hearts and images are all artistic motifs used in Mexican folk art in every state in Mexico.
The Christmas decorations of Mexico vary by region but are always colorful and festive whether made of tin, paper, wood, textiles or clay.
"Milagro"means "miracle" in Spanish. Milagros are religious charms that are prevalent throughout Mexico and are used to request or thank God for a miracle.

These are small leather tigre masks from the Guerrero. They are much too small to have been worn, but are replicas of the masks that are worn (along with a full tigre costume) during the Danza de los Tigres in several towns in Guerrero. There is some disagreement or lack of full knowledge about the origin and thinking behind the dance and you can read more here. Both of these pieces have large red ears, boar bristle whiskers and mirrors in the eye sockets.
