Horse-Broken ear & hoof

This group of medium size wood carvings is from my collection. I started collecting Oaxacan wood carvings after I spent a high school summer in Mexico. I've amassed a large collection over the years and it's time to start deaccessioning!

This group is quite faded, however the black marker used to delineate the type of animal is still visible. All of them were a bright yellow, which has now faded and there are slight remnants of that color on some of their bodies. None of them are signed--typical of the time period these were carved, the 1970's. They all come from La Unión, Oaxaca and are recognizable predecessors to the current Santiago family.

The horse lost an ear and a hoof somewhere along the way. Sold as is.
All others are in excellent, though faded, vintage condition.
