These paintings of the religious figures are on an arched and carved piece of wood that is known as a batea, in the style of those from Apaseo but these were handmade in Patzcuaro, Michoacán. They were painted by the same artisan and purchased at the Semana Santa folk art fair in Uruapan. They are painted in a somewhat muted palette that makes them look older but they were made recently. They stand up or can be hung on the wall. 

Bateas vary slightly due to their handmade nature. Each one is one of a kind.
