Ceramics from yesteryear
The Virgen de Guadalupe, milagros, sacred hearts and images are all artistic motifs used in Mexican folk art in every state in Mexico.
The Christmas decorations of Mexico vary by region but are always colorful and festive whether made of tin, paper, wood, textiles or clay.
"Milagro"means "miracle" in Spanish. Milagros are religious charms that are prevalent throughout Mexico and are used to request or thank God for a miracle.
A large size wool and cotton blanket from circa 1970's. This is not made of acrylic and it is NOT a Saltillo blanket. This blanket features a small diamond shaped tapestry of wool and cotton in the center which was modeled after the Saltillo blankets of northern Mexico. This is likely a blanket purchased by a tourist who did not want to spend the hundreds of dollars on an authentic blanket but wanted the feeling of a Mexican blanket. These blankets preceded the ubiquitous acrylic striped blankets that are now sometimes used as yoga blankets. This blanket is much softer, more subtle and more aesthetically pleasing than the acrylic yoga blankets. And they are a soft, warm blanket to snuggle in on a cool evening on the porch. Fringe is nothing exciting but it is intact.
Excellent condition.
Here's a little more info about authentic saltillo blankets.
