Vintage slab ceramics from Tonalá, Jalisco, most likely made by the Medrano family. These charming trucks are typical of the style of ceramics made by the famous Medrano family in the 60's, 70's and 80's. The style is a form of glazed pottery whose patina was originally made with the resin of a pine tree called “betus”. For that reason, it is also known as "barro betus." Candelario Medrano was the most famous maker of this style and he was known for making apartment buildings, houses, buses, schools and all kinds of other typical Mexican scenes. HIs son, Serapio, is also well known. Neither are living. They are not signed, very typical for folk art of this vintage. These two trucks have been in my collection for many years.
