Authentic Extra Large Vintage Saltillo Serape, Brown, Tan with Gorgeous Center Diamond

This item is sold out but we thought you might like to take a look at these similar products.

An extra large size, unique, one of a kind Mexican Saltillo serape from circa 1930's. This serape features finely woven wool with a beautiful center diamond tapestry of silk thread, predominately in pinks, oranges and blues.  The background is a light tan interspersed with bands of dark brown, and paler shades of brown. The decoration of the bands is done in ombre colors using 4-sided polygons. The side edges are a straight. The warp fringe is in poor condition on both ends. The fringe tells us that the warp is made of cotton thread. The colors are bright. There are two small holes, as there sometimes are, in these old wool pieces. Both are located in the center diamond shape (see last two photos).  It's not in perfect condition but it's lived a life. There are a few stains on the edges of the blanket.  These minor blemishes do not detract from the look of the blanket (at least to me!) It's made of wool, silk and cotton. It is stunning. This blanket was purchased in the 1930's by someone living in California on a trip to Saltillo. She subsequently moved to Minnesota  in 1941, so I'm fairly certain of the dates. Might even be slightly older!

One of a kind.
